As with other types of garden first you need to allocate a space for your future vegetable garden. Then you should think no further and start building rather small vegetable garden at first to gain more practice in the process. Don’t get into rat race everything should be done step by step. In case you choose to build a large one without proper knowledge you may not sustain the workload on your back. If done wrong way the gardening may become tiresome and you may become disappointed with it and even quit. So if you are newbie in this venture, start with a garden no larger than 9 X 11. The garden can always be expanded if you need more lush vegetables for your family. Find an all-day sunny place especially if you live in the north. Then work up your soil with the sharp tiller. Try to not remove the sod. This can create poor water outfall in the soil. Then identify your soil whether it is sand, clay or loam. The loam is very desirable. You can recognize it if you can take the handful of loam and put it in a ball and it crumbles along the way. Otherwise if you cannot identify it use the service of your local extension office.

Being there, do not forget testing your soil for PH levels along with potassium, potash and nitrogen as well. If you have to deal with clay or sandy soil you can use topsoil or more cheap compost to begin the work with. Compost consists of animal excrements or animal carcasses and can be dark, humus or fine. The best option here is well rotted animal manure. Compost should be used once in spring and in autumn. The soil will be improved that way in a couple of seasons. Other way you can use topsoil for making a raised bed. Raised bed is making easier to plant and weed your vegetable garden in case you have ischias. Moreover a raised bed fences your garden. Then it is time to plant so you can purchase seeds or order them online. The seeds must be of high quality. Choose your seeds from well known brands from this industry. If you are limited with the space do not plant squash, corn or pumpkin. If you like pumpkin you can grow bush varieties of it called Hybrid Spirit Bush or Autumn Gold. Same less room is needed to grow summer squashes than it is with winter ones. If you want to plant corn grow it in the north side of your garden to not shade other crops. You can plant onions, beets rutabaga and peas that are easy to grow. Peppers and tomatoes can be grown well in containers at home. So as you see it is very important to know how to build a vegetable garden easy way.
